Type
Self-Healing Mats
The most popular type for general crafting, sewing, and model making. They feature a multi-ply core that allows knife or rotary blade grooves to "close" or heal after cuts.
Hard Surface / Solid Plastic Mats
Usually made from thick, durable polyethylene. They do not have a soft top layer like self-healing mats, meaning cuts will visually score the mat.
Adhesive Cutting Mats
They have a sticky, tacky surface designed to hold a variety of materials (cardstock, vinyl, fabric) firmly in place while the machine cuts them.
Glass Cutting Mats
Made from tempered safety glass, these mats offer a completely smooth, durable surface. They do not wear out or develop cuts.
